Zoo!

Last Saturday, while Matt was away with his choir at a competition (they got 2nd place!), the girls and I went to the zoo with my parents.  It was really fun.  It was cold so a few of the animals weren't out, but it also meant the people weren't out so we were able to see more of the animals without waiting behind lots of other zoogoers.

Pink legwarmers!

I decided Cadence needed some legwarmers for getting to and from dance class during these chilly months.  So I got some hot pink sparkly yarn and some inspiration from this pattern here. (I used worsted instead of bulky, cast on 40 instead of 34, and did more rows of ribbing. I think I used bigger needles too.)

I may be biased, but I'm pretty sure this is the cutest little dancer ever!

If there was any doubt, Cadence loves them. Of course. They're pink. And sparkly.

Minnehaha Falls

Last Monday we did a fun family hike.  Matt and I like hiking as long as there's a payoff, so we pretty much only do trails where there's a view or a waterfall.  Minnehaha Falls was perfect for us, since we had Matt's parents along too.  It's about a 1/2 mile in and out - 1 mile round trip, and easy walking.  (The note there on the railing at the beginning of the trail is misspelled.)

This is the payoff!  60 foot cascade.

The girls were great on the trail,as usual, though we were all a little cold by the end (and two members of the group may have had to pee in the woods and one member may have fallen into the water).  I kept talking about how we have to do this trail again in the summer since it widens into nice low pools at the bottom of the falls that would be perfect for little guys to play in.   Hopefully Cadence with her elephant memory will remind me 6 months from now.

DIY Rocking Baby Scooter

Matt has gotten handy with wood projects in the last few years (did I ever show you the cute and study bench he built for our porch?) and we couldn't think of anything store bought to get Piper for Christmas that the grandparents weren't already buying.  So when I found these adorable rocking scooter plans on ana-white.com, I pretty much told him he was making it for her.  I helped with the painting, though.

It turned out so well and she likes it!  It was pretty affordable since Matt just had to buy some wood and screws, I think.  Oh, and I bought silver acrylic paint to do the headlamp and the side detail.  The blue paint on the body is the same color as the walls in her room, the off-white on the seat was a free sample and the black we had from painting some stools years ago.

Here she is riding on Christmas day.  She looks very serious, doesn't she?
