Theme of the Week: Red, White, and Blue

Now that our summer has settled down and we're home, but Matt is at work, I'm trying to have a bit of structure in our days.  Last week, as we prepared celebrated Independence Day, we did some appropriately themed activities.

Inspired by this, we had a ton of fun with shaving cream fireworks.  We filled plates with shaving cream, red and blue paint, and blue glitter.

We read some great books: Good Night, America by Adam Gamble and Suwin Chen, Hats off for the Fourth of July! by Harriet Ziefert, and Olivia forms a band by Ian Falconer.

We also tried Water and Oil Fireworks.  But they didn't work for us, really.  See the halfhearted smiles?

We introduced the girls to sparklers, and I was more excited about them then they were.
